Hear and be Filled

In our previous study, Hear and be Healed, we found out that the Lord desires that we enjoy good health, and it's such an important thing for the Lord that we be in good health that He sent His Son Jesus Christ to take our infirmities and to bear our sicknesses. We do not have to be sick, we just need to come to the Lord's table and feast on the bread of healing. Good health is our portion. The Lord Jesus Christ purchased it for us that we may enjoy it. In this study we shall be looking at another area of our lives that the Lord has already taken care of: provision.

After the Marah experience the children of Israel came to Elim, where there were twelve wells of water and seventy palm trees and they camped there by the waters. Then they moved on to the Wilderness of Sin where from their complaints we know there was no food or they had run out of supplies.

And the children of Israel said to them, "Oh, that we had died by the hand of the LORD in the land of Egypt, when we sat by the pots of meat and when we ate bread to the full! For you have brought us out into this wilderness to kill this whole assembly with hunger."

Exodus 16:3 (NKJV)

As soon as they complained about food the Lord spoke to Moses and revealed His plan for them. It's not their complaints that moved God to act, He was already willing to do it and had already made provisions for their nourishment. So the Lord rained manna and brought quails not because of their complaints but in spite of them. They didn't need to complain for God to act, He already had acted, and all they needed to do was to ask Him what He had done concerning their provision. In their complaints, they even wished that the Lord had killed them in Egypt. Many times when people get themselves in hard situations they blame God for it. However Jeremiah 29:11 tells us that the Lord has good thoughts for us, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give us a hope and a future. You may be in a hard place at the moment but you don't need to panic, there's a certain good future for you. Don't let the situation wear you down.

Luke 9:56 (NKJV) says that the Son of Man did not come to destroy men's lives but to save them. The Lord Jesus didn't come into your life to destroy you, He came to save you. There's one thing you can count on, the Lord will see to it that you get the promise. But you have to prove yourself faithful as we found in our previous study, Safe safe. According to James 1:12, the man who endures temptation is blessed because after he has been tried (approved) he shall receive the crown of life which the Lord has promised to those who love Him. From our study we learnt that to endure means to remain unchanged and unmoved by circumstances, that is to remain singing the same praise song even in adversity. We are tested to prove our quality not to be destroyed.

So He humbled you, allowed you to hunger, and fed you with manna which you did not know nor did your fathers know, that He might make you know that man shall not live by bread alone; but man lives by every word that proceeds from the mouth of the LORD.

Deuteronomy 8:3 (NKJV)

The above scripture shows us why the Lord allowed the children of Israel to hunger. It was not because He hated them and had scores to settle with them, He wanted to pass a message to them, that man shall not live by bread alone but by every word of God. Bread in this case is everything you need for the sustenance of physical life. The Lord didn't say that man does not need bread to live, you surely do need food to sustain your physical body. The point is that there's something more important than food, and that is the word of God. Israel didn't need to do anything to get bread in the wilderness, they just needed to hear what the Lord's plan for them was. You don't need to worry about bread, you just need to hear and be filled. Isaiah 1:19 says that if you are willing and obedient you shall eat the good of the land. You can't obey unless you have heard, and so you will have to hear Him first before you can eat the good of the land. It's amazing how many people want to eat the good of the land and how only a few are interested or even willing to hear.

Matthew 14:13-21 gives an account of five thousand men and women and children who had followed Jesus into a desert place to hear the Word. When the evening came His disciples asked Him to send the multitudes away that they may buy themselves food. But Jesus said to them, "They do not need to go away. You give them something to eat." Now Hebrews 1:14 tells us that angels are ministering spirits sent forth to minister for those who are inheriting salvation. When you get yourself involved with God and cast away all your cares, the Lord takes care of them. The multitudes were not the least concerned about food, they were only concerned with one thing: being with Jesus. When that becomes your first priority the Lord says, "He/she does not need to go away, you give him/her something to eat." What a good thing for the Lord to say concerning you! How I desire that the Lord will say that of me every day!

When you have the priorities in the right order you don't need to buy something for yourself, the Lord will see to it. The Lord your God owns the earth and the fullness thereof, including the cattle on a thousand hills. He is more than willing to meet every need you have. The Lord Jesus told us that our heavenly Father knows that we have need for all these things, and not only so, He cares about us. He cares so much that He would not have any of these things concern us. But we must put first things first. The Lord desires fellowship with us, not because we have needs but because we have need of Him. We have to get ourselves so needy of the Lord that it will concern us when a day passes without hearing a word from Him just as it would concern us if a day passed without us having food for our stomachs. Food is not all there is to live for, seek ye first the kingdom of God and His righteousness and the rest will be added to you.
