History
Deliverance Church International Kasarani (Zimmerman) started in one of the initial members’ houses in the Roysambu area of Kasarani on 4th November, 1984. It first began as a cell meeting at the home of Ruth and Collins Karugano, with most of the cell members being employees of Farmers Choice Roysambu. The cell meetings continued for a couple of months, and in October, the idea of starting a church was conceived. This was made possible with the help of seven members from Deliverance Church Eastleigh who were living along Thika Road. Those were indeed days of small beginnings (Zechariah 4:10). The church appreciates Bro. Ephantus Kamande and the late Bro. Joseph Mwangi, who were then neighbors to St. Andrews ACK, for offering a place for fellowship after the congregation moved from the Karuganos’ house.
This initial fellowship of seven families was led by Bishop Dr. Jimmy Kimani and his wife, Rev. Alice Kimani, who were released from Deliverance Church Eastleigh. The other members were Robert and his late wife Esther Gatubu; Bro. Simon Njoroge Mborothi; the late Bro. Joseph and Alice Mwangi; Bro. Ephantus and Lucy Kamande; Bro. Daniel and Lucy Mugo Njoroge; Bro. Collins and Ruth Karugano; and Bro. Forencio and Beatrice Nyagah. A few months later, Bro. Simon Mborothi got married, and his wife Jane joined the leadership team. Together, they identified a place to launch the church after a fourteen-day crusade that ran from 25th October, 1984.
The church was officially launched on Sunday, 4th November, 1984, in a temporary structure built within a farm used for rearing pigs. During the rainy seasons, some Sunday services were held in the abandoned pig pens, while the Sunday school classes were permanently conducted there.
During its early years, DCIKZ faced many challenges. Nevertheless, by God's grace, the church achieved numerous milestones. As the congregation outgrew the initial members’ house, it moved to an iron-sheet (mabati) structure on rented space within the pig-rearing farm. Eventually, the church purchased its own property in Zimmerman Estate and relocated there. Today, the congregation has grown significantly and holds several services, including those at Shiloh Campus and Ukombozi Restoration Center (URC) Campus.
In 1991, the church made a major breakthrough by establishing Deliverance Church Kasarani Nursery and Primary School. After five years of operation, the primary school was renamed Cornerstone Academy, while the nursery section was discontinued.
Over the past forty years, DCIKZ has had a significant spiritual impact on its community by planting more than 25 churches. In support of social enterprise, the church partnered with Deliverance Church Umoja and House of Bread to establish the Ukombozi Retreat and Conference Centre (URCC) in Ndarugo, Juja, Kiambu County.
The church also operates a clinic that serves the community by providing medical treatment at subsidized prices. In addition, DCIKZ has remained actively engaged in Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives. For example, in 2024, the church fed more than ten street families, donated more than thirty chairs to the nearby police station, and provided food to more than 100 police households.
The church also organized a free medical clinic for police officers and their families. Furthermore, for more than two years, DCIKZ has consistently offered free medical check-ups and healthcare services to the Zimmerman community more than twice each year.
